CDs or something else?

Interest rates on certificates of deposit are near rock bottom. The national average rate on a 12-month $25,000 Certificate of Deposit stands at 0.31% — well below the 0.63% level two years ago and 4% in 2007.  Accrued interest on that CD would be roughly $77.*

By comparison, that same $25,000 invested in D2 Capital Management's Tax Free Income Portfolio (yielding 3.28%) would generate about $832 in tax free interest over the same one year period.  $25,000 invested in the D2 Capital Management 100% Fixed Income Portfolio (yielding 3.87%) would accrue approximately $984 in interest.
